He didn’t have that many options. An injury can shake up the way wrestling works almost instantaneously as the promotion is going to have to figure out what to do next. This can be an even bigger problem when it happens on the spur of the moment and there is no time to plan things out. That was the case earlier this year, and it turns out that things were more complicated than expected.
Chelsea Green made her WWE main roster debut on the November 13 edition of SmackDown, appearing in a four way match with the winner being added to the SmackDown women’s Survivor Series team. Green was injured early in the match, suffering a broken wrist which required surgery. It turns out that the injury threw a wrench into WWE’s plans, and something else made it even worse.
According to Fightful Select, Vince McMahon was not sure who to pick for the win following Green’s injury. Green was scheduled to win the match but the injury forced WWE to make a change on the fly. McMahon initially chose Natalya to win but then changed his mind to Tamina Snuka before ultimately going with Liv Morgan. Green has been out of action since the injury and it is not clear when she will return.
Opinion: This is a weird one as not only does WWE have the ability to make whatever change they want, but the match was for a spot on a Survivor Series team, not to crown a new champion or anything close. I’m not sure why this would be such a hard decision, but McMahon does have a tendency to overthink things at times. At least they went with a good choice and the result worked out well.
