That makes sense. Summerslam has come and gone and that means some big matches have taken place. The show is the second biggest of the year on WWE’s calendar and that can make for some interesting observations. This includes seeing which matches didn’t make the show, which can occasionally be more interesting than seeing what did. Just like everything else this year, there is a little twist though and it might explain a few things.

One of the more intense feuds on SmackDown over the last few weeks has been between Matt Riddle and King Corbin. Riddle attacked Corbin during a post main event beatdown a few weeks ago and Corbin has not forgotten. Corbin even put out the King’s Ransom, offering money to anyone who could get rid of Riddle. A match seems like a guarantee but didn’t take place at Summerslam. There is a good reason for that.

According to Fightful Select, Riddle vs. Corbin did not take place at Summerslam because it is being saved for Payback. The show is taking place a week after Summerslam and only has one match announced for it with a week to go. There is no word on when the match will be announced, or if the match will have any kind of a stipulation taking place during the match.

They have a history together. Check out how we got here:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised here, but I can say that I’m not wild on seeing Corbin getting this kind of a match. Riddle getting a win over Corbin might mean a little something, but Corbin has not done anything for me in a very long time now. If it’s just a one off match then it could be acceptable. The problem is I have no reason to believe that WWE can leave it alone.
