They weren’t done yet. There have been a lot of changes going on in wrestling over the course of the last few weeks and the biggest has been on Friday nights with SmackDown moving over the FOX. The move gives WWE one of its biggest chances in history and that could go a lot of ways. One of the other details about the show is what comes to end the night and now we have our first example.
According to Wrestlinginc.com, the dark match segment after SmackDown and 205 Live saw Kevin Owens and Randy Orton beating up Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, Mike Kanellis and Ariya Daivari, all of whom appeared on 205 Live. The two of them were scheduled to have a match when the cruiserweights interfered, allowing Orton and Owens to take them all out with a mixture of RKO’s and Stunners. Neither Orton nor Owens were on SmackDown, though both were drafted to Monday Night Raw.
The two of them have fought before. Check out one of their more violent matches:
Opinion: That’s an interesting change of pace as Orton has been a heel for a long time now and that isn’t what he was doing here. Maybe it was just a one off to make the fans happy, but it’s certainly a different way to go. That could make for a change of pace once Orton makes it over to Monday Night Raw, though I’m not sure how likely it is that WWE actually goes that route.
Do you like the idea of an Orton face turn? Is WWE actually going that way? Let us know in the comments below.
