6. The IC Championship is the Core Title of Smackdown

Kevin-Owens

Building a title to be prestigious is a lot easier said than done. If Smackdown is to be relevant, it must have a core championship for fans to identify as the Smackdown Championship. That’s why the WWE brand split had to World Championships in the first place. To organize Smackdown and give it an identity, the Intercontinental Championship would be the core title of the brand.

This means the IC champion would be opening segment and last segment of Smackdown and be focused on and represented not as a midcard champion, but the champion of Smackdown. This would bring prestige back to the title and give it respect. Most WWE fans legitimately do want to care about the IC Title. It has too much history in WWE to ignore it. The title just needs a clear platform.

Not to mention, holding the IC title and being the face of Smackdown is a major role that is essentially training to be the WWE Champion on Raw.
