6. Sheamus

Sheamus

At TLC 2009, John Cena was defeating the WWE Championship against a new opponent in Sheamus. At the time, Sheamus was a brand new heel from FCW and the ECW brand. Sheamus skyrocketed to the main roster and he very shortly was thrust into the main event with Cena.

At TLC 2009, Sheamus won a Tables Match against Cena to become WWE Champion. That win put Sheamus on the map and he’s been riding high ever since. The shock of Sheamus beating Cena was a big moment in late 2009. It set the tone for 2010.

Some fans argue that Cena wasn’t pinned, so it’s not as valuable. Cena didn’t even win the Royal Rumble that year and won the title back at Elimination Chamber, but lost it to Batista to set up Wrestlemania 26’s title matches. Cena could have easily held the title for another two months, he didn’t have to put Sheamus over.
