You can picture him doing this. We are less than a day away from WrestleMania 36 and that means we are coming up on one of the most unique shows in wrestling history. Nothing has ever been done like this before and it is going to be one of the most important events on the WWE calendar. While the show in the empty Performance Center is going to look strange, it could have been a lot stranger.
While we are finally at the final home stretch for WrestleMania 36, it has been a long road to get here. It had not been clear what is going to happen with all kinds of ideas being thrown out there. Some of these ranged from what felt like good ideas to complete insanity, but now we know that Vince McMahon had an even more out there idea which would have certainly been memorable.
Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso reports that despite the issues with the Coronavirus, McMahon still wanted to hold WrestleMania in the empty Raymond James Stadium. The show was eventually moved to the Performance Center due to a combination of factors, including the state of Florida not wanting to be associated with such a visual and also how complicated the setup would be with no fans in the stadium. There is no word on when WWE will be back in a regular stadium or arena.
Like this, but with people. Check out a look at where WrestleMania 36 was going to be:
Opinion: It’s hard to imagine WWE running the event in an empty stadium but it is not hard to imagine that McMahon really wanted to do so. No one has ever said McMahon thinks inside the box and it would not have surprised me to know he thought it would have been a great idea. I’m glad that he didn’t because it would have looked even worse, but points to him for thinking of big ideas.
