It helps to have someone up high. There are a lot of powerful people in the world of wrestling but no one approaches Vince McMahon. He has more money, more authority and more influence than anyone else and anything he decides can change the course of the business in a heartbeat. It can also change the career trajectory of any wrestler at any time and that might have been the case with two current WWE stars.
There has not been a more unlikely rise up the rankings in recent memory than that of Otis. After debuting on the main roster just over a year ago as a comedy tag wrestler, Otis has gone from the low end of the pack to winning a prominent singles match at WrestleMania. Couple that with his on-screen pairing with Mandy Rose and things are going along rather nicely. Someone had a big hand in making that happen.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, McMahon has been the main force behind Otis’ side of his storyline with Rose. While recently released writer Andrea Listenberger wrote the specific promos, it was McMahon who shaped Otis’ character. McMahon is said to be a fan of Otis’ while Rose is the person who pitched the storyline to McMahon in the first place.
It’s been a heck of a ride. Check out some of the storyline so far:
Opinion: There is something great about the fact that McMahon can still help put together an entertaining story. I know that he might not be what he once was and does some stuff that leaves fans scratching their heads, but McMahon does know how to put together some good stories and this is what he seems to have done here. I’ve liked Otis and Rose so far and I’m curious to see where things go, which is the point of the whole thing.
