I’d say she got some attention. There are a lot of talented people under the WWE umbrella. While the wrestlers themselves are of course the best known, there are several other areas where WWE shines and has a great deal of success. This is the kind of thing that can enhance a company in a completely different area and WWE has quite a few to draw from. This includes its commentators and non-wrestling personalities, and one of them showed off a lot of charisma earlier this week.
It was quite the shutdown moment. Check out a great promo from a non-wrestler:
This week’s special preview edition of WWE Backstage featured a segment involving the hosts cutting promos on various negative social media posts about them. Renee Young, one of the two main hosts of the show, was up next and received a Tweet about how she could screw up calling a Stone Cold Stunner. Young told the camera to zoom in on her as she responded, explaining how she never called a Steve Austin match, or a Kevin Owens match for that matter, nor did it matter because she now had all of her FOX money. Her co-hosts cheered her for her promo.
Opinion: I’ve been a big fan of Young since she debuted and her time as a commentator on NXT was one of the brightest spots from that era of the promotion. She found a great balance of intellect, charm, wit, sass and knowledge to make her one of the best commentators WWE had in a long time. It was a shame that she was put on a leash when she did commentary for Monday Night Raw as she is capable of doing something like this. I could go for more of this, but I can understand why she does not want to do it any more often.
What did you think of Young’s promo? Could she ever be a regular on-screen character? Let us know in the comments below.
