It was a busy night. We are less than five weeks away from WrestleMania 36 and that means the build towards the show is in high gear. There are a lot of things already set for the show and there are also a lot of things that you know are going to be announced for the show but haven’t quite made it there yet. One of the most important matches has been made though and one of the participants was in action after Monday Night Raw.
Back in January, Drew McIntyre won the Royal Rumble by eliminating Brock Lesnar with the Claymore. McIntyre would go on to win the entire match, becoming #1 contender for the WWE Championship. It was the biggest win of his career and now it is time for WWE to make him a star on the road to Tampa. They can do that by having him win one big match after another, which is what happened in the post show dark match.
This week’s Monday Night Raw ended with Randy Orton hitting Beth Phoenix with an RKO. After the show went off the air, McIntyre called out Orton for a match but Erick Rowan answered instead. McIntyre went on to defeat Rowan with a Futureshock DDT and the Claymore. Both McIntyre and Rowan had appeared earlier in the night but neither wrestled a match.
It was a big moment. Check out McIntyre calling out Orton and then defeating Rowan:
Opinion: Right now, WWE’s major priority is making McIntyre into a star. They need to do any and everything they can to turn him into a big deal and appointment viewing. Having him out there kicking people in the head and pinning them is going to go a long way towards doing just that. If WWE can do this well, they have a new star on their hands, which is what they need to do.
Has WWE succeeded with McIntyre? Will it work at WrestleMania? Let us know in the comments below.
