It might work better for her. There are so many people on the WWE roster that it can be hard to find something for everyone to do. That sounds like a nice problem to have, but at the same time it can cause quite a few issues when you have someone sitting around with nothing to do. It makes things seem better when a role gets filled and that might have been the case this week.
Back in August 2020, an armed man broke into Sonya Deville’s home. Luckily Deville was able to escape and get away safely, with the man being arrested and currently awaiting trial. That is quite the jarring situation and understandably, Deville took some time away from WWE. She returned on the January 1 edition of SmackDown and now we have a better idea of what she will be doing.
During this week’s edition of SmackDown, Deville spoke with WWE official Adam Pearce and said that she was looking forward to helping him out. While not confirmed, this would suggest that Deville will become a new authority figure on SmackDown. Deville has made no mention of wrestling since returning and had her career ended by losing to Mandy Rose at Summerslam.
Opinion: I’m hoping that this isn’t the case as Deville was just starting to hit her stride in the ring when everything fell apart. Deville could be an excellent challenger for the SmackDown Women’s Title in a hurry and it would be a bit of a shame to waste her in a role that doesn’t need to exist. Maybe she can do a bit of both, but I’d be rather happy to have her back in the ring one way or another.
