It had to happen eventually. Tag team wrestling has always long since been a weak spot for WWE. The company does not seem thrilled with putting much effort into their tag team scene and a lot of that is due to how often the Tag Team Titles change hands. A long reign can help a good deal with such an issue, and one of those has been taking place for the better part of a year. That being said, any such title reign has to come to an end, which is the case again.

WWE ran its annual Draft back in October 2020 and a good many things changed over the two nights. Two of the changes involved the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles. The Street Profits had been the Raw Tag Team Champions for about seven months but were being sent to SmackDown. The result was the Street Profits trading their titles to SmackDown Tag Team Champions the New Day, who became Raw Tag Team Champions in the process. That means the new reign was about three months old, and now things have changed again.

This week on SmackDown, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler defeated the Street Profits to become the SmackDown Tag Team Champions to become the new Tag Team Champions. This is the second title reign for Ziggler and Roode, who were the Raw Tag Team Champions in 2019. The win came after the teams had traded wins over the course of the last several months. There is no word on when the new champions will defend their titles for the first time.

Opinion: This had to happen at some point as Roode and Ziggler had lost so many times that there was nothing left for them to do but win the titles. The Street Profits are a made team after having the titles for so long already so it’s not like they are hurt by the loss. I’m sure the rematch is coming at the Royal Rumble and hopefully the match is even better next time around.
