Stay away from the boss. This past weekend’s Backlash main event didn’t go well. I know that’s not exactly breaking any new ground but I don’t know how big of a problem people realize the show caused. While some fans were more annoyed than others, there were some who were actually walking out of the arena early with BEAT THE TRAFFIC chants being heard. These reactions were seen by the person whose opinion matters most and now it might actually mean something.

They don’t seem pleased here either.

Samoa Joe is relentless in his fight with Roman Reigns: WWE Backlash 2018 (WWE Network Exclusive)

According to the Twitter account of Slice Wrestling, Vince McMahon was livid at the fans leaving the arena during the main event (as can be seen below). McMahon values the New York/New Jersey crowd more than any other (the show was held in Newark, New Jersey) and was not happy with how the match was received. It remains to be seen what will happen to Reigns going forward, though he was in the main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw, seemingly starting a feud with Jinder Mahal.

Opinion: So they booed him in New Jersey at a low level show like Backlash. How in the world are the fans going to react when they see him at WrestleMania 35 in the same area? The fans do not seem interested in seeing Reigns in this spot no matter how WWE presents him. This show should have been headlined by AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship, not Reigns vs. Samoa Joe in a pretty nothing match with Reigns winning again to end the show. Fans aren’t interested and that’s not going to change no matter how much WWE wants to force it into them.

What did you think of Sunday’s match? What will it take to change WWE’s mind about Reigns? Let us know in the comments below.
