The money talks. Just over a year ago, WWE moved SmackDown over to FOX, marking the biggest opportunity that WWE has ever had in the area of television distribution. The show has the chance to expose their product to all kinds of new viewers while making a ton of money. That is the kind of thing that is going to get FOX some special pull, and they are using it again at the moment.
The 2020 WWE Draft wrapped up this week and there were several changes being made throughout the company. All kinds of names were moved from one roster to another and it means that some new stories are going to be able to take over. Some of them are moving around as well though and a lot of them are taking place on Friday nights. That is the case for one major reason.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has been moving or keeping their major storylines to SmackDown to appease FOX. This includes Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso and Bayley vs. Sasha Banks staying on SmackDown and Seth Rollins vs. the Mysterios moving to the show. The idea is to keep the ratings and audiences as high as possible, as another major television contract may not be available should their television numbers continue to drop.
SmackDown has some big stories now. Check out what they have going on:
Opinion: I can understand this and in a way, I’m not complaining. SmackDown has a lot of good things going on and if it means that WWE can get their numbers up a little bit more, that’s going to be a good thing. I’m not sure what the future holds for the show on FOX, but if they can keep their numbers up, another deal is not out of the question. Just give us a good show, and things should stay strong.
