The title might be cursed. In its still fairly young history, the NXT Title has become one of the more sought after titles in all of wrestling. It seems to be a near guarantee of how far you are going to go in wrestling and a near who’s who of stars have held the title throughout its existence. However, things have been taking a bit of a hit as of late and it might be doing so again.
Back in August, Karrion Kross defeated Keith Lee to become the new NXT Champion but suffered a bad injury to his shoulder in the process. The injury forced him to vacate the title later in the week, forcing a new champion to be crowned. That would be Finn Balor, who won his second title by defeating Adam Cole. Then things went downhill again and it might be deja vu all over again.
According to Fightful Select, NXT is currently working on plans for the possibility of Balor having to vacate the NXT Title due to his broken jaw. Balor was injured during a successful title defense against Kyle O’Reilly at Takeover: 31. There is no word on how long Balor will be out of action, though he had his surgery to replace the jaw, which was broken in two places, last week.
He’s worth waiting for. Check out what Balor can do when he is healthy:
Opinion: This is the worst possible scenario for WWE and hopefully the title does not have to be vacated. After the Kross situation and Keith Lee having such a short reign, it would do even more damage to NXT, which has already suffered quite a bit in recent months. Balor is the one big ace that they have left and it would do a lot of harm to have him go on the shelf at the moment.
Will the title be vacated? Who should be the next champion? Let us know in the comments below.
