Well, it is her house now. A lot of things happen every year on the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown live after WrestleMania. This time around, one of the biggest changes was the signing of Paige as the new General Manager of SmackDown Live. The surprise was even bigger as Paige had announced her retirement as an in-ring performer due to a series of injuries the night before. It was a very odd choice and a lot of people were wondering why Paige was the pick. Now we might have a better answer to that question.

It was a heck of a surprise.

Shane McMahon names Paige the new GM of SmackDown: SmackDown LIVE, April 10, 2018

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by way of 411mania.com, the reason Paige was announced as the General Manager of SmackDown Live was to help promote the upcoming movie about her life, Fighting With My Family. The film, produced by the Rock’s production company, is due out in early 2019 and was heavily promoted over WrestleMania weekend. The decision was made by Vince McMahon himself and there is no word on how long Paige will stay on as General Manager.

The movie might not be out as soon as expected.

Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise in the world and that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. Paige has been fine in the role so far and is far better than bringing in someone for the traditional role. I don’t need the General Manager to be a mostly retired wrestler who is eventually drawn back into a feud with the other wrestlers. I’m not sure how long Paige is going to be around in the role but she’s doing well for now and it could last for a very long time. It’s a good choice and if it helps the movie, so be it.
