Throw the boys a bone. There’s a lot going on in WWE today, including this Sunday’s Backlash, but there’s a limit to how much time the company has to cover all of it. With just so much pay per view time a month, you can only put so much stuff on the biggest shows of the year. The pay per views are expanding though and that means there’s a little more room for some of the less important matches, including the occasional title match. That might be the case on Sunday, if WWE decides to add to the card a little bit.

There’s a history here.

Buddy Murphy ruins Cedric Alexander's Championship Celebration: WWE 205 Live, April 10, 2018

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by way of 411mania.com, there is a possibility of a Cruiserweight Title match being added to Sunday’s Backlash card. If the match is added, Buddy Murphy will be challenging Cedric Alexander for the title. Murphy had earned a title shot last month on 205 Live but missed the 205 pound weight limit, forcing him to postpone his title match until after the Greatest Royal Rumble. He has since made weight and is eligible to challenge for the title again.

Murphy was especially vicious this week on 205 Live. Check out what he was up to.

Opinion: Well, they need something on the Kickoff Show and it’s not like this is going to make the main card most of the time. Even though the new pay per view format will see the regular shows lasting four hours, they’re also co-branded and that means the smaller matches like this aren’t likely to make it on there all the time. That’s a shame, but it’s also the reality that the cruiserweights have to live with: they’re not a very big deal and that’s not likely to change anytime soon.
