This past Monday on “RAW,” The Authority threw everyone for a loop when it was announced Seth Rollins had been added to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between John Cena and defending champion Brock Lesnar. A new report has given some insight to the decision.
According to PWInsider, officials had been discussing adding Rollins to the match for several weeks now. They had played out the possibility a clean finish straight up between Lesnar and Cena would be a good selling point for the show, but realized with the Royal Rumble match itself, the main attraction would be elsewhere. Therefore, the decision was made to add Rollins to make it more enticing.
What remains to be seen is the ripple-down effect this will have on the rest of the main event scene. Per the report, it may spur off into a bigger storyline.
With Rollins being added to the match, it is speculated Lesnar may express his frustration with The Authority. Because of this, tension may brew between The Authority and the team of Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman. Interactions between Rollins and Heyman have been teased, and with this in motion, it is believed this could be a possible factor in an eventual split between Lesnar and Heyman.
Editor’s Note
A lot of moving pieces, and anything is possible. Rollins will be the wild card come WrestleMania, that is for sure.
