Many WWE fans have taken note of the ongoing growing presence of former WWE Superstars and current producers Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble on television over the past several weeks. And according to a new report, they are likely to stick around a little while longer.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports Mercury and Noble are set to be labeled as permanent members of The Authority from hereon out, working as its “stooges.”
Some will see this as a callback to the Attitude Era, when Vince McMahon’s Corporation had “stooges” of its own. Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco were McMahon’s comedic right hand men for getting certain tasks done, used in a similar capacity to Mercury and Noble.
Wrestling Rumors noted around this time last year WWE was preparing to move Mercury into a backstage role as a producer and trainer after bringing him back following several personal issues with substance abuse. He is a former Tag Team Champion as a member of MNM.
Noble, 37, retired due to injuries in 2009, and has been prominent backstage ever since.
Editor’s Note
This is not a bad thing. They are entertaining, and will be a nice relief to the seriousness of The Authority.
