Early Thursday morning, the wrestling world was rocked when former WWE Superstar CM Punk finally opened up about the reasons why he walked out on WWE the night after the “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view back in January. And a new report details some of the initial backstage reaction to the interview.
According to PWInsider, there seems to be mixed opinions on what Punk had to say.
The report notes those who were not fond of Punk in the first place tended to criticize what he had to say. In the interview, Punk blasted several upper-tier officials in WWE including Vince McMahon and Triple H, alongside some superstars such as Ryback. Ryback initially responded on Twitter Thursday night, but soon deleted the tweets.
On the other hand, it is said many were supportive of several of Punk’s complaints and shared his sentiments. This includes the concern over WWE Network pay for pay-per-views, the lack of creativity with booking and the uncertainty of proceeding feuds. Though it is unlikely the names of those backing him will come out, it appears this is the majority of those spoken to.
Punk also revealed he was fired on his wedding day, despite walking out several months earlier. Those interested can read an editorial about Punk’s interview from Wrestling Rumors here.
Editor’s Note
This shouldn’t be all too surprising. The question is, does anyone step up to the plate now to vouch for his claims publicly?
