A new network for TNA Wrestling may bring a new announce team along with it.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, plans are in motion for former WWE announcer Josh Mathews to replace Mike Tenay on commentary.

Mathews would work with Taz, while Tenay would maintain some sort of on-air role.

Tenay has been the lead announcer for TNA since the company’s inception in 2002, having voiced every single pay-per-view and television taping.

Mathews was released by World Wrestling Entertainment on June 25. As a former contestant on WWE “Tough Enough” in 2001, he was able to land a role as a backstage interviewer for “SmackDown” and as an announcer on “Velocity.”

Editor’s Note

Mathews and Taz? Like I needed any more reason to refer to TNA as “WWE-lite.”
