WWE has its ups and downs, but recent months have been good to the company, if their latest financial results are anything to go by. There’s one development in particular that Vince McMahon himself is quite pleased with.
After opening up a recent earnings call to questions, Vince was asked about fan interest in WrestleMania. He felt they had more momentum than last year, owing in part to fewer injuries at the top of the card to allow for more freedom in making matches.
He then said that the brand extension is working “extremely well,” which is what the company expected. There’s obvious crossover with Raw and SmackDown viewership, but the blue brand is getting more fans, which was the primary purpose of the split.
The divide also helps to keep talent fresh by moving from brand to brand. He cited Roman Reigns as an example–it would be a big deal if he were to switch to SmackDown now, since it would lead to many fresh matches.
Vince also mentioned that it’s easier to create new stars with multiple shows, since they allow for multiple ladders to the top.
While some fans may be quick to speculate that Raw is Vince’s baby, both brands are ultimately essential to WWE, and the success of both of them is what’s “best for business.”
