A report within the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some news on Heath Slater’s WWE status. As previously reported, a warrant for Slater’s arrest was issued in December in regards to allegations of assault.
According to the report, written by Dave Meltzer, WWE claims Slater has been spending time away from the company due to personal reasons. Meltzer writes,
“WWE said that he is taking some time off for personal reasons. This came right after the charges brought against him for an alleged incident involving a woman who worked security and allegedly physically trying to get her to come to his room in Atlanta after the WrestleMania after party in 2011.
It’s been noted that Slater got engaged to his girlfriend on that night so wrestlers have vouched for him on this case. But the Slater Gator team has been dropped.
Everyone had been praising Slater’s work as far as getting over what was clearly a lower card comedy gimmick. It appears Kidd & Cesaro were put together to fill the hole on the heel tag team side. On the house shows, Tyler Breeze has been brought up to team with O’Neil against Los Matadores when they want to do the Torito vs. Hornswoggle spots, since O’Neil has the storyline affiliation with Hornswoggle.”
Other WWE superstars, such as Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett, have gone to bat for Slater during this time of legal and personal scrutinization. However, it is uncertain as to what will come of this situation, or how longer Slater could be gone while he deals with it.
Editor’s Note:
Sucks for Slater. He makes it sound like the charges pressed against him are ridiculous, but his removal from TV and the fact that the charges are still alive are not good signs.
