2. World Heavyweight Championship: Edge(c) vs. Jeff Hardy (Ladder Match, 06-07-09)
Due to interference in their match at “WWE Judgement Day” from Matt Hardy, Edge was forced to defend his World Heavyweight Championship one more time against Jeff Hardy the following month. A ‘Ladder Match’ stipulation was added after Jeff defeated Edge on “Friday Night SmackDown,” giving him the opportunity to pick what type of match they’d be having at “WWE Extreme Rules 2009.”
With both superstars climbing the ladder, Jeff pulled Edge’s legs through the rungs, trapping him and leaving him completely defenseless. The Rated-R Superstar had no choice but to look on as Hardy became World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career. Unfortunately, the “Hardy Party” was short-lived as CM Punk cashed-in his Money in the Bank briefcase moments later.
You’d think both Hardy and Edge would have run their inner wells dry on potential high-risk spots with ladders, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. You can never quell true creativity. This match proved the equation (Hardy + Edge + Ladder) still equals magic.

1. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar (Extreme Rules Match, 04-29-12)
One of the most shocking moments of 2012 came on the “Monday Night RAW” after WrestleMania 27 when Brock Lesnar returned to World Wrestling Entertainment after a stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Former RAW general manager John Laurinaitis signed Lesnar to bring legitimacy to the company and to become “the new face of WWE.” To do so, he would have to go through John Cena first.
Just a few minutes into the match, medics had to enter the ring to tend to a bloody and battered Cena. Lesnar was dominant for roughly 90 percent of the bout, but a shot to the head with a steel chain and an Attitude Adjustment on the steel steps gave Cena the upset win. As he sold a severe arm injury, Cena addressed the WWE Universe, telling the crowd that he intended to take some time off as “WWE Extreme Rules 2012” went off the air.
Cena vs. Lesnar was the definition of what an ‘Extreme Rules’ match should be. It featured blood, weapons, high-octane offense and even a shocking ending. These two set the bar for what all other matches at the event should attest to be.
