The sixth-ever “WWE Extreme Rules” takes place on May 4, live from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
Looking back at the history of the event, you’ll find some of the most brutal and barbaric matches you’ve ever seen. Blood, sweat and tears have been shed as some of the top superstars in the company waged war under “Extreme” stipulations.
Without further ado, here are the 10 best “WWE Extreme Rules” matches of all-time:
Honorable Mentions: WWE Championship: The Miz(c) vs. John Morrison vs. John Cena (Steel Cage Match, 05-01-11), Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio (Falls Count Anywhere, 05-01-11), WWE United States Championship: Kofi Kingston(c) vs. Dean Ambrose (05-19-13)
10. WWE Championship: John Cena(c) vs. Batista (Last Man Standing Match, 04-25-10)
An ill-conceived finish that only Red Green would love (Duct Tape?) tarnished what was otherwise a physical and entertaining bout between Batista and John Cena.
Batista chose to invoke his rematch clause after Cena made him tap out for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 26. The STF submission became futile in a ‘Last Man Standing’ match, so the former champion felt that he’d have the advantage.
That didn’t stop Cena from locking in the move, though. After weakening Batista with the hold and forcing him to tap once again (it meant nothing), the leader of the Cenation wrapped his opponents legs around the ring post and tied his feet together with tape, thus keeping him down for a count of 10.
Result: John Cena def. Batista to retain the WWE Championship (24:34)

9. Randy Orton vs. CM Punk (Last Man Standing Match, 05-01-11)
CM Punk was none too pleased with having lost his match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 27. Still fuming over Orton costing him the World Heavyweight Championship two years earlier, Punk got one last shot at revenge in a ‘Last Man Standing’ match, although his New Nexus faction was banned from ringside shortly before the opening bell.
With Punk looking to drop an elbow from the top rope, Orton grabbed a kendo stick and proceeded to beat the living hell out of him. Orton then climbed to the middle rope, locked his arms around Punk’s head and drove him face first into the mat with an RKO.
To this day, many fans still question if the right man went over, but one thing that isn’t up in the air is how well-executed the match turned out to be.
Result: Randy Orton def. CM Punk (20:06)
