Following former NFL player Shawne Merriman’s work with WWE at WrestleMania XXX and the following “Monday Night Raw,” rumors began to spread that the man known as “Lights Out” would be coming to WWE. At one point, it was believed that Merriman would work exclusively with WWE.

Shortly after, it was then assumed that Merriman was with WWE, as reports came out about his role in the company. Merriman was reportedly to set to be trained as an announcer, receiving television time. However, during that time, Merriman would also be trained as a wrestler.

Since his role at WrestleMania XXX, the three-time All Pro linebacker has not been seen on WWE programming, possibly signifying that he had not signed with WWE.

Last week, during the “NXT Takeover” conference call, WWE COO Triple H talked about the situation. “The King of Kings” revealed that the two sides are currently in negotiations.

Below is Triple H’s quote, courtesy of The Miami Herald, who have recently picked up on the story:

“Shawne has done some analyst work for us, done some stuff for the [WWE] Network. We are having conversations with Shawne, and it’s really going to come down to time and what he wants to do. Shawne expressed to me he had two dreams growing up. One was to be an NFL superstar, and he did that, and the other was to be a WWE superstar. He’s done one, and now he’s heavily contemplating the other. We’re in discussions. So we’ll see what happens, see where it goes. He’s a great guy, an amazing athlete, very smart, and we’d love to have him.”

Editor’s Note

I definitely hope WWE and Merriman can come to terms on a deal. It would be interesting to see if “Lights Out” could make the transition from the NFL to WWE.
