Rusev has had not one but two successful runs with the United States Championship, and there is a certain point when he’s proven his value both as a successful midcard champion and as a strong heel. There are typically two ways WWE can proceed.

The first is to catapult Rusev into the main event title picture, but that’s not an easy thing to do right now with Kevin Owens as the top heel on Raw. The other option is a face turn to try to reinvent him and give him more time in the midcard.

According to a report from Inquisitir.com, WWE officials are leaning towards the latter for The Bulgarian Brute now that the feud with Roman Reigns is over. It was revealed that Rusev will be facing Brock Lesnar in Mexico City shortly after “Survivor Series.”

Since Lesnar is heading into “Survivor Series” as the heel, it’s curious to see Rusev face him as a heel so close after the match with Goldberg, which Brock is expected to win.

If WWE pulls the trigger on a face turn for Rusev, Lana’s role is going to be pivotal in getting him over. In fact, the romance between the two may just need to be presented in a different light to give the couple the character changes they need to be faces.
