Most fans were extremely underwhelmed by Kurt Angle’s last match at WrestleMania 35. Kurt Angle put over Baron Corbin on the grandest stage of them all to hold onto a great wrestling tradition, but most people believe that he deserved a better ending.

The Olympic Hero appeared on Collider Live on Thursday and revealed that he was the one who made the decision to end his wrestling career. However, Vince McMahon was the one to reject the rumored John Cena retirement match and made it clear to Angle that him putting over Baron Corbin was the right move. Here’s what Kurt had to say:
“I decided to retire at Mania. Vince didn’t tell me ‘Listen you’re done after Mania.’ I went to him and said ‘Listen I want to retire. I’m not able to do what I used to, and if I can’t be the old Kurt Angle I want to get done now.’ I was hearing a lot of feedback from people that Kurt looks like he’s in pain in the ring and he’s slower then he used to be,” said the WWE Hall of Famer.
“When I asked to retire at last WrestleMania, I threw Cena out at Vince and Vince said ‘Listen you have a program that you’ve been doing for a year…I’m not throwing it away…it’s with Baron Corbin. So whether you want to retire here or whenever…you’re going to wrestle Baron at WrestleMania.’ I said, ‘That’s fair.'”
The WWE Universe would prefer for all great WWE Superstars to end their careers on a high note and on their terms. Unfortunately, a lot of dream scenarios were left on the table for Angle’s last match. Despite that fact, the WWE Hall of Famer still made the call to end his career himself and his career was too historic to be defined by the last match.
