It was revealed that Trish Stratus was in discussions with WWE regarding an in-ring return at Summerslam. With only a couple of weeks left to promote a match, WWE officials needed to find a dream opponent for the WWE Hall of Famer rather quickly.
After Charlotte Flair’s promo on SmackDown Live, it’s clear the WWE Universe will be seeing Charlotte vs. Trish at Summerslam. Howeever, the most interesting part of the match coming to fruition is how long WWE officials have been planning the matchup.
According to a report from Brad Shepard via RingSideNews on Wednesday, the powers that be have been planning Flair vs. Stratus since last October around WWE’s Evolution PPV. WWE officials needed to be patient to get throw WrestleMania given the situation Charlotte was a part of with Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35.
With this year’s SummerSlam being taken out of New York for the first time in years, a hometown showing in Toronto for Trish Stratus is a perfect situation to pull the trigger between two of the most talented and accomplished wrestlers in wrestling history.
It’s highly unlikely that Trish Stratus walks out of Toronto with a victory over Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam. However, it’s quite the stamp of approval for Trish to work with Charlotte on a major stage almost 13 years after her official retirement from the ring.
There’s only two more weeks of WWE programming left to promote the match. The two women aren’t expected to exchange blows before the PPV. A promo segment and a good match will be more than enough to cement the moment in the minds of wrestling fans.
What other dream matches are left for Trish Stratus that you would want to see?
