It’s not difficult to understand that that deal between the FOX Network and WWE will bring some major changes to SmackDown Live. It was just reported that FOX executives want WWE officials to turn “the blue brand” into a combat sports show with less of the comedy and antics that a wrestling fan would understand and only some find funny.
WWE officials will need to change things to give WWE programming the legitimacy that only comes with SmackDown being on FOX each Friday night. However, FOX executives are also calling for an end to WWE’s brand extension. This is something many fans have an issue with, but there’s a good reason why FOX wants to end the brand split next year.

According to a new report from RingSideNews, FOX executives see that some of WWE’s biggest stars are on Raw and not SmackDown Live. The brand split keeps the network from having the best that WWE has to offer. On Raw, Ronda Rousey, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and others are being kept off SmackDown and that’s a problem for the network.
It’s plausible that FOX will allow WWE officials to keep the brand extension, but there is a likelihood that FOX would be able to control WWE’s roster and pick out every wrestler they want to see on SmackDown. That could and most likely would create some issues for WWE with the USA Network that would openly be getting less content as a result.
The only logical thing for WWE officials to do is cancel the brand split. That’s going to be a problem in condensing championships and trying to give the entire roster all the exposure it deserves. WWE has to figure out how a roster that is big enough for three shows can give ample time to each performer on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT as well.
