The right mask can change your career, but losing it can absolutely ruin everything they’ve built up with a complete derailing of their wrestling lives. So what about one of the most famous masked wrestlers in the history of wrestling? Oddly enough he’s lost his mask more than once, but what happened to the people who took the mask away?

WWE has released another edition of List This, looking at 5 Superstars Who Unmasked Rey Mysterio. These moments have taken place several times over the years and in different promotions, with villains both in WWE and WCW taking Mysterio’s mask. While Mysterio’s face has never been seen in WWE, Mysterio wrestled without a mask for over a year in WCW before putting it back on for his WWE career.

Opinion: I get why this is the kind of thing that has been teased so many times in WWE without ever pulling the trigger. In addition to the obvious bad idea of taking away the easy merchandise money that comes with selling Mysterio masks, losing his mask would ruin his aura. Mysterio isn’t a big guy, but if you put a mask on him, he’s a superhero. That’s what lets him be the star that he is and that’s worked for a very long time.
