How plans change. Wrestling is a sport that can change in the blink of an eye and you never know what you are going to see happen from one day to another. That is the kind of thing that can cause a lot of problems and sometimes you have to make something up on the fly. That was the case last week on SmackDown in a match that had some stakes involved.
Last week on SmackDown, Chelsea Green made her long awaited debut on the show, being added to a fatal four way qualifying match for the SmackDown women’s Survivor Series team. Shortly into the match, Green suffered a broken wrist and was forced out of action for the rest of the night, eventually requiring surgery to repair the injury. That was a big change and now we know what was originally planned.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plan for the match was a triple threat match between Liv Morgan, Tamina and Natalya. However, Vince McMahon tore up the script and in the process of writing a new one, found out that Chelsea Green was at the arena and ready to debut. Green was added to the match and was scheduled to win but after the injury took place, Morgan won instead.
It was a big night. Check out the match that was changed twice:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing where you have to try and keep up with what is going on, which is the kind of thing that can make the show interesting to watch. Morgan winning is fine and while it didn’t make a ton of sense at the time, it made a lot more sense later on when the details came in. If nothing else though, it was fascinating to see how all over the place the company’s creative process is. They might want to fix that.
