Get your brackets ready. Tournaments are one of the few things that work almost every time a wrestling promotion puts it on. It is one of the easiest concepts in all of wrestling: take a bunch of people, put them all in a bracket and the last one standing gets a prize of some sort. Almost every sport does just this and wrestling is no exception, with another one coming back in the near future.

Tag team wrestling has meant a lot since NXT debuted and that is still the case. While some of the promotion’s tenure has been better than others, there has always been at least some bit of a focus on the tag team division. At the same time, there would probably be no NXT, at least in its current form, without the influence of Dusty Rhodes. Those things go together well, and they are going to do it again soon.

During this week’s edition of NXT, an announcement was made that Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic would be returning in 2021. The tournament began in 2015 and has run every year since then, save for 2017. The 2021 edition will begin on the January 13 NXT, with brackets and teams being announced on January 6. There is no word on the prize for the winners, but the 2019 and 2020 winners received a Tag Team Title shot.

The tournament has done well before. Check out what we might be seeing again:

Opinion: This has become quite the tradition for NXT and I’m glad to see it back. I’m curious to see who is going to be included, as the tournament has produced some rather nice teams over the years. Some of the matches work out well and I could easily see the finals being one of the bigger matches on an upcoming Takeover. It’s a nice feeling to have and if the past is any indication, the next version will be another success.
