Now that’s how you expand. For the first time in forever, WWE is actually going up against some competition in the wrestling world. There are a lot of different companies taking aim at WWE, but at the same time there are a lot of markets that WWE has yet to go after whatsoever. Sure WWE might have appeared there every now and then, but they have yet to make a real effort to go after the other areas. It turns out that WWE took aim at one area in a big way but couldn’t quite make it work.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is trying to establish NXT Japan as their newest territory in the vein of NXT UK. In an effort to do this, WWE attempted to purchase the company Pro Wrestling NOAH, in addition to various other promotions to establish as a base for NXT Japan. However, none of these deals actually went through due to one reason or another. WWE is still trying to purchase a promotion and set up NXT UK as a result. They have also attempted to hire some major, though unspecified, unnamed as trainers.
WWE has been to Japan before. Check out one of their cooler moments:
Opinion: This is something that I could see working well and certainly sounds like a better move than trying to start a new promotion from scratch. A promotion like NOAH may not be in the best place at the moment, but if WWE can add their own touch and give it a much larger audience, maybe it could work out well in the end. Japan is a different kind of wrestling market though and this may wind up being a very different kind of situation for WWE. It should be interesting either way though.
