That’s kind of last minute. We are over a week removed from the 2020 WWE Draft and a lot of things went down in just a few hours. It is one of the cooler things that takes place every year for WWE as they change up a lot of stories and characters in two nights. Some of these changes are better than others, and one of the bigger changes did not exactly have the most notice.
The biggest story to come out of the Draft was the New Day being split up after a rather strong six year run. This is something that has been rumored for a long time now and it was surprising to see WWE actually pull the trigger on such a move. It finally went down on the SmackDown edition of the Draft though and the team was not exactly thrilled with what happened. There is a bit of a detail to the story though and it makes things a bit sadder.
In an interview with FOX Sports, Big E. said that New Day only learned of their split two days before it took place. Big E. speculated that this was done to help prevent the team from being upset, either angry or saddened by the split. The Draft saw Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods move over to Monday Night Raw while Big E. remained on SmackDown to become a more serious singles wrestler.
The team did well for a long time. Check out their time before the split:
Opinion: That’s pretty short notice for breaking up one of the biggest trios WWE has ever seen, but it does go along with the theory that WWE does not put a lot of time into some of their decisions. I can get the idea of New Day splitting up, but it’s still quite the risky move to make. They were hardly dead in the water or anything like that but at the same time, I can understand the desire to try something new.
What do you think of the split? Who will be the successful member? Let us know in the comments below.
