That would have been different. We are less than two weeks removed from Hell In A Cell and the show had a lot going on in just one night. One of the biggest matches of the night featured Roman Reigns defending his Universal Title against Jimmy Uso in an I Quit match inside the Cell. It was a heck of a match, but it turns out that it wasn’t even the original plan for the night.
The entire focus of the Reigns vs. Uso match was the idea of Uso having to admit that Reigns was the Tribal Chief and the head of the table. It took Jey’s brother Jimmy getting involved despite not being medically cleared for him to get back in the ring. That could have made for a completely different match, and we almost had a completely different match of another kind.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plans for Hell In A Cell called for Reigns to defend the title in a fatal four way against Braun Strowman, the Fiend and an unknown fourth wrestler. This would have followed their three way feud which began at Summerslam and continued through Payback. Strowman and the Fiend were both sent to Monday Night Raw in the Draft. There is no word on why the change was made.
What could have been. Check out what we almost saw in the Cell:
Opinion: I would be curious to know how long ago these plans were made, as Reigns and Jey had their match at Clash Of Champions long before the Cell match was announced. I’m not sure how the four way would have gone, but it’s hard to imagine that it would have been some big improvement. If nothing else, the idea of a four way would have taken the focus off of Reigns himself and that isn’t a good thing.
What do you think of the idea? Who would the fourth man have been? Let us know in the comments below.
