What a ride. Stables and groups are a staple of wrestling and for a very good reason. It makes great sense to put them together if you have a lot going on and not enough room for individual stories. They can also give people a fresh presentation and maybe even open up a new world of success for them. That was the case with one WWE stable, but now the ride is over.

Back in 2015, a group called the New Day formed. After a bit of a slow start, the team wound up being one of the most successful groups WWE has ever seen, winning eight Tag Team Titles, plus a WWE Championship when Kofi Kingston shocked the world at WrestleMania 35. The team was one of the hottest acts WWE had seen in years and it was hard to imagine them not being together. Now, we don’t have to imagine it.

This week on SmackDown, Kingston and Xavier Woods made their returns, with Kingston coming back after a few weeks off and Woods returning after nearly a year due to a torn Achilles. The team would defeat Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles, but would then be split up via the Draft. Kingston and Woods were sent to Monday Night Raw but Big E. will remain on SmackDown. This will be the first time the three have been split up in over five years.

Leave the memories alone. Check out some of New Day’s best moments:

Opinion: It takes a lot to surprise me in wrestling these days but this actually did the trick. I was genuinely stunned for a second when the move was announced, but what really got me was New Day’s reaction. Kingston and Woods were announced as going to Monday Night Raw and Woods shouted “SAY E! SAY E!” That really got me as I couldn’t believe the team wasn’t going to be there anymore. It shows the impact the trio has and that’s a very impressive thing to do.
