Freshen them up a bit. Wrestling names are incredibly important and always have been. You are only going to get so far with a name that isn’t so great and thankfully most wrestling companies seem to know that. However, the biggest wrestling company has a tendency to miss the boat with some of their names, but thankfully the seem to be starting to change them up.

Over the last few years, NXT has become a tremendous training ground for wrestlers. They are able to figure out what works and what doesn’t, which makes them a bit more polished when they finally make it up to the main roster. WWE seems to keep an eye on NXT as well and occasionally might make some changes. That seems to be the case with a current NXT star.

During this week’s NXT, Denzel DeJournette wrestled in a loss to Tommaso Ciampa, although under the name Desmond Troy. This is the first time that the Troy name has been used and comes a week after Tehuti Miles’ name was changed to Ashante Adonis. It is not clear why WWE has decided to start changing wrestlers’ names or if they will be changing more in the future.

Opinion: I’m not sure if this is going to mean anything but it is an interesting change of pace over the last week plus. It isn’t like the DeJournette name was carrying him that far so maybe this can help. The new name is somewhat better but it isn’t by much. WWE could use a little freshening up in this area and maybe the name changes suggest that they are taking things a bit more seriously.
