It was nice for awhile. There are a lot of titles in the WWE at the moment and there are only so many wrestlers to win them. WWE certainly likes to change their titles though and with that comes a lot of rematches. That is in theory at least, because WWE instituted a new rule earlier this year that former champions would no longer receive automatic rematches. However, things might already be changing back to where they were.
On the November 8 episode of SmackDown, the New Day defeated the Revival to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Then the following week on the November 15 SmackDown, the Revival received a rematch for the titles in a losing effort when the Undisputed Era interfered. There was no reason given for the rematch, though according to Wrestling Observer Radio, the automatic rematch clause seems to have been reinstated as the company just dropped the ban on such matches.
The titles have been on the line a lot lately. Check out the two matches, plus another title change that got no rematch:
Opinion: I’m sure this was a completely necessary change and not just a way for WWE to get to the matches without having to book their way there. I don’t care for the automatic rematches due to how fast they can water down a potential match or lead to a series that takes up far too much time and doesn’t help anyone involved, but WWE certainly likes them. Odds are we’ll be seeing more of them in the near future and that is not the best news of the day.
