During the Superstar Shake-Up last year, Rusev and Lana were both moved to SmackDown Live. Soon after, Lana took to a singles career as opposed to being Rusev’s manager.
Rusev aligned himself with English during his feud with Randy Orton and the Rusev Day gimmick was born. It seems now, though, that the alliance between the two competitors is on the rocks.
As Ringside News explains, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio believes WWE has always considered the Rusev Day team to be a mid-level tag team at best. This would explain their lack of Championships as a team.
It is further influenced by the following clip from SmackDown Live when Lana appeared without an accent to suggest a weak link in the team of Rusev and English:
At this point, Meltzer believes it is obvious WWE isn’t putting the SmackDown Tag Team Championships on them, so this storyline may be a way to send Rusev higher up the card with Lana by his side.
English was reportedly injured during the Casket Match also involving The Undertaker at the Greatest Royal Rumble, and another theory we’ve suggested and heard ourselves from others is that this could be a way to allow English some recovery time.
