PWInsider is reporting that Tomasso Ciampa suffered an injury during the Ladder match at NXT “TakeOver: Chicago” after previously aggravating it at an NXT live event just days prior to the event.
WWE sources are saying that Ciampa is headed to Birmingham, Alabama to get surgery on his ankle, including post-surgical rehab. No word yet on when he will be able to compete again, though he did make an appearance at the recent NXT tapings.
Ciampa turned on #DIY tag team partner Johnny Gargano at the pay-per-view following their loss against the Authors of Pain in an effort to regain the NXT Tag Team Championship, turning heel in the process.
It was just days before that it was reported that Ciampa had injured his ankle at a live event and could potentially miss the event. However, he was able to overcome this and make it to perform.

Editor’s Note:
I was such a fan of #DIY and seeing their predictable end get disrupted due to this injury really hurts to see. I wonder how Gargano bounces off this. I’m sure they’ll use it in storyline to some degree. How? I’m not sure.
