Tournaments are awesome! Last year WWE ran the Cruiserweight Classic, which is still being fondly remembered. Now it’s time for a new tournament and this time around they’re shifting away from cruiserweights and over to a women’s version. A 32 woman tournament will take place in July and now we have some more details on what to expect.

According to PWInsider Elite by way of Wrestlinginc.com, the current plan is to have two female announcers to go along with Jim Ross. The rumored names at the moment would be some combination of Renee Young, Charly Caruso, Lita or Beth Phoenix. There is also a chance of female referees, including the recently signed Kennadi Brink.

Opinion: They certainly have a blueprint to make this work but I’m always a bit skeptical about bringing in a lot of these outside talents. There’s always going to be a few bad ones in there but you can also guarantee a few hidden gems to balance them out. If the production is great (which it should be) and it’s treated as a big deal (which it will be, with McMahon right there every chance she can be), everything should be fine.
