If there’s one certainty in pro wrestling, it’s that you’re going to get hurt. Unless you’re the Miz. These three WWE stars are not the Miz.
Darren Young took a nasty apron bump during a Main Event taping a few weeks ago, and WWE even elected to go ahead and air footage of the match with the injury. It’s ugly.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Young underwent elbow surgery on February 9th. He’s expected to be out for about six months.
There’s better news for the Cruiserweight Division, though. After an odd ankle injury caused former champ Rich Swann to miss a scheduled match, he returned to action at a house show over the weekend.
Tony Nese also missed last week’s excellent #1 contender’s match due to a heel injury, but luckily for him–and his abs–the issue only had him out for a single week.
We don’t mean to downplay the seriousness of any injury, but Young’s absence likely won’t be felt much in WWE. There is every possibility of that changing once he returns, however.
But while the Cruiserweight division is still struggling to find its footing, WWE is still trying to ensure it’s a viable part of the brand, and they need all hands on deck to make the division all it can be. It’s lucky Nese and Swann were only out of action for such a short time.
