WWE always likes to bring in crossover stars, especially around their biggest annual show at WrestleMania. The world of mixed martial arts is an obvious complement to that of sports entertainment, and the success of crossovers ranging from Ken Shamrock to Brock Lesnar prove that it’s a winning formula.
The Wrestling Observer this week reports that WWE is considering bringing in a UFC talent for a spot at WrestleMania. One possibility is Conor McGregor, though his comments about WWE have earned him heat with the talent that might make such an appearance questionable. Still, it would provide a dramatic reason for his appearance in the squared circle.

Far more likely is Ronda Rousey, who is the company’s number one choice for the discussed sport. Rousey previously appeared at WrestleMania 31 in promo segment featuring the Rock, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H.
Rousey’s admiration for pro wrestling is well-documented, with her “Rowdy” nickname chosen in tribute to Roddy Piper. She’s also gone on record as saying her MMA career would be ending soon.
In a perfect speculative storm, TMZ Sports caught up with Stephanie McMahon to ask her about a Rousey appearance. “I certainly hope so,” she said. “I gotta get her back. She put me in that armbar. I’m certainly going to try.”
Either star would make a highly marketable choice for a WrestleMania appearance. McGregor’s comments about WWE will paint him as a despicable heel, while Rousey’s long-teased wrestling debut would prove equally exciting. Plus, Rousey has the combination of looks and athletic ability that WWE prizes in its stars–she’s perhaps the only person to have been on the cover of Sports Illustrated as both an athlete and a swimsuit model.
Paige VanZant has also been discussed. She was initially scheduled to appear at SummerSlam, but pulled out for another fight.
