We’d heard rumblings that WWE was getting increasingly interested in signing UK talent, and it’s looks like all those pieces have suddenly come together. During a press conference at the O2 Arena in London, Triple H revealed the company’s plans for a tournament to crown WWE’s first-ever United Kingdom Champion.
The tournament will take place on January 14th and 15th, broadcast live on the WWE Network–so expect some late nights, American fans. The show will be called by Monday Night Raw’s Michael Cole, along with British wrestling icon Nigel McGuinness.
The tournament will feature 16 competitors. We’re awaiting confirmation on many names, but WWE offered a photo of the line-up.

Trent Severn, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Jordan Devlin, Tyson T-Bone, Ricky J McKenzie, and Joseph Connors have reportedly all been confirmed, but we’re awaiting official word.
According to certain reports, following the tournament, WWE will begin a weekly show featuring their UK superstars. We have not yet been able to confirm this information.
Finn Balor made a statement on the new show.

This is WWE’s attempt to stay ahead of a revived World of Sport, which is set to be a one-off special on the UK’s ITV network. ITV has much wider viewership than WWE’s partner, Sky Network, and could potentially make a regular World of Sport program the most-watched wrestling show on UK television. This announcement is certainly geared to derail some of that momentum, and give UK wrestling fans a big reason to stick with WWE.
