Goldberg vs. Lesnar at Survivor Series is all but confirmed, with numerous reports from reliable sources claiming the match is a done deal. Goldberg is set to appear on the next episode of Raw, with Brock Lesnar scheduled a week after that. That’s perfect timing for a pro wrestling challenge to be issued and accepted.

According to the Wrestling Observer, negotiations took place over the course of weeks, and was finalized just a week ago.

Survivor Series, where the match is expected to take place, will occur in Toronto on November 20th. If the match is confirmed within the coming weeks, WWE will have a full month to promote the special attraction.

The match is currently expected to be Goldberg’s only WWE match, though fan response to the returning star could open up the possibility of further appearances.

It’s unlikely that Goldberg will be cheered in Toronto, however, due to his involvement in the injuries that ended the career of Canadian superstar Bret Hart.

Add to that the abysmal reputation of Goldberg and Lesnar’s previous encounter at WrestleMania XX, and it seems unlikely that a passionate, knowing crowd in Toronto will have much patience for another encounter between the two “part-timers.”

The match works as a special attraction, but no outcome offers a compelling story moving forward. Lesnar has been an effectively booked monster, but leaning into the “suplex city” chants has done the crossover star no benefit in his matches. If Goldberg is expected to have only a single match, a victory over WWE’s most dangerous competitor robs a full-time wrestler from a star-making opportunity.
