There has been some speculation regarding Kevin Owens continuing to work “NXT” television in the future. As previously noted, Owens is now a member of WWE’s main roster and is not expected to be in NXT much longer, although he will be fighting for the NXT Championship at “NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn” on Aug. 22.

With Owens facing John Cena for the United States Championship at WWE “Battleground” on July 19, many are wondering how or if Owens will be appearing at the “NXT” tapings on Thursday, July 16. One would assume that he will, since he has a rematch against NXT Champion Finn Bálor coming up on Aug. 22, but how he’s presented is what’s being speculated upon.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline.com claim that Owens would have to appear during the July 16 “NXT” tapings, which will record four new episodes of the program, taking the show from July 22-Aug. 12. The issue is, however, WWE will not want to give away the results of the Cena vs. Owens “Battleground” match during the tapings, leaving many wondering how they’re planning to use Owens.

Meltzer states that Owens may just do run-ins and backstage segments leading up to his “NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn” encounter with Bálor, because the company cannot have the former NXT Champion showing up at the tapings with the United States Championship title on his shoulder, should he be the one slated to win on July 19 at “Battleground.” This would give away the finish to one of the most anticipated bouts on the Pay-Per-View’s card.

Owens is not expected to appear on “NXT” past Aug. 22, and him becoming the United States Champion at “Battleground” is something WWE officials have thought about running with. If he does win the US Title on July 19, Owens is expected to hold similar “open challenges” like Cena has been issuing during WWE broadcasts.

Owens vs. Cena is a match that many backstage have also claimed they would like to see make it to “SummerSlam,” although by that time, former WWE Tag Team Champion Cesaro may be added to the program as well so that Cena isn’t defeated in a clean manner by Owens twice in a row.

Editor’s Note:

This Sunday is going to be interesting…also Thursday’s “NXT” tapings. If anyone is planning on attending “NXT” tapings in Orlando on July 16, please correspond with us and send results/notes to @WrestleRumors on Twitter.
