It had been previously reported that according to UFC president Dana White, we would most likely never be seeing former WWE superstar CM Punk fighting in “The Octagon” again. This was after he was defeated in the first round by Mickey Gall, in 2:14 of the first round, in his last fight.

However, you can never say never in either the wrestling or the mixed martial arts business.

According to a new report from the MMA Fighting, Punk’s coach, Duke Roufus, says that Punk has been training hard since this setback, and is eager to make his return to UFC.

“He’s going to get better. Obviously, he didn’t perform the way we wanted to perform. We had some things he was doing really well with, he just didn’t happen. It’s just going to take time. But the great thing is he has an incredible attitude, and he’s very thankful for the opportunities.”

Roufus also said that he talked to White, and that he is hopeful that Punk will get another opportunity on a grand stage.

“Yeah, definitely, I believe he and Dana are talking,” he said. “I just talked to Punk on Monday before that, and things are looking hopeful. I can’t say yes or no, but they’re looking hopeful.

And when can we expect to see this happen?

“Maybe four or five months,” he said.

Editor’s Note:

I had a feeling this would happen. There is too much money to be made having Punk fight in the Octagon again. He is a commodity to too many people.
