It looks like we could see a brand new US Title feud soon, as former title holder Rusev is rumored to be Kevin Owens’ next challenger.

According to Cageside Seats, Rusev is set to return to SmackDown Live at some point in the near future, and, also according to the site, he’ll be next in line for Kevin Owens’ United States Championship.

Rusev has been out of action due to injury for the last several months. Originally, he was supposed to return at Money in the Bank, and get a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, plans were changed after WWE decided to go full steam ahead with Jinder Mahal.

Opinion: Neither Owens or Rusev have been a babyface during their time with WWE, and it’s unlikely that they’ll do a heel vs. heel feud, so someone’s turning. Will it be Kevin Owens? Probably not, even though he’d be a great babyface. So, it looks like we’ll see the “evil Russian” turn when he returns to television.

As of right now, it doesn’t look like Rusev and Lana will be an item on television, as WWE just began Lana’s singles run. Furthermore, they disbanded The Miz and Maryse simply because they didn’t want more than one couple on television, and they want that couple to be Mike and Maria Kanellis.

Rusev demands a WWE Championship Match at Money in the Bank: SmackDown LIVE, April 25, 2017
