On Monday’s Raw, Samoa Joe was asked about how he matches up against all of the other participants in the Royal Rumble match, specifically John Cena, and Joe responded by promising that Cena will be the first superstar he eliminates in the match.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that WWE has an opponent in mind for John Cena at WrestleMania 34, and that we’ll likely figure out who that opponent is in the coming weeks. However, according to Meltzer, it won’t be Samoa Joe.
Here’s what Meltzer said regarding Cena vs. Joe possibly happening at WrestleMania 34 on Tuesday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio:
“Cena is not wrestling Samoa Joe at WrestleMania,” said Meltzer. “Just in case anybody thought that was what this was about. They are going to work at house shows. Right now it’s Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. John Cena for the Intercontinental Title, which could change, but the idea is for Joe and Cena to work house shows starting in February.”
The Undertaker is set to return for the upcoming 25th anniversary of Raw show, which could lead to him challenging John Cena. The original plan for last year’s WrestleMania was to have Cena take on The Undertaker, however plans changed, as The Deadman ended up working with Roman Reigns.
