Finn Balor’s 2016 was filled with ups and downs — back in August, he became the very first WWE Universal Champion, a title which he was forced to relinquish the following night due to a shoulder injury.
He underwent surgery just a few days later, and the original prognosis for his return was 6-to-8 months, although The Demon King has hinted that he may be able to return sooner than expected.
Last month, Balor told Sam Roberts that his target return date is WrestleMania 33, which does fit the original prognosis.
While his goal is to return for WWE’s biggest show of the year, his new year’s resolution is to return to Monday Night Raw, and reclaim the title that he never lost.

Balor also said that 2016 was his best year as a professional wrestler, despite the fact that he spent the fourth quarter of it on the sidelines with an injury.

It’ll be interesting to see who WWE decides to put Balor in the ring with at WrestleMania 33, because there’s really no obvious opponent for him. Of course, if he comes back as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble, he’ll likely win the match, and get another shot at the Universal Championship against either Kevin Owens or Roman Reigns.
